The twins Josh and Sophie start out thee day as normal to find that people they know, they really did not know, and a sane mundane world is anything but. Soon they find themselves part of a ten thousand year old prophecy that may bring about the demise of the world as we know it.Needles to say I was drawn in to this title by the name of Nicolas Flámel. Instead of a biography I found a story that incorporated many mythical creatures and historic events into a consistent chase of bad guys against good guys that covers many of the major world’s well know landmarks mostly in California or off shore. My favorite character is the Witch of Endor only a grand daughter could love.One warning is that this book is a true cliffhanger and of no use without the second book.If you are a Kendal user then you may not want to buy any of Michael Scott’s books u until he authorizes “speech enable.â€The Magician: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel
Vorweg - es handelt sich rein optisch um ein wunderschönes Buch. Gebunden und mit auf alt getrimmten Schnitt - macht Spaß. Anfangs war ich ein wenig gelangweilt und genervt, weil viele Figuren abgeschaut erschienen und die Geschichte nicht so richtig losging....dann wurde es aber immer besser und besser und inzwischen warte ich sehnsüchtig auf den dritten Teil. Einfaches, gut lesbares Englisch.
magic is as real as the magician, a magician being somebody who has learned how to use the magical potential of her or his aura. since all beings ( possibly even inanimate entities, but certainly plants and animals) possess auras, everyone possesses magical potential. these basic assumptions concerning the "reality of magic" are reflected in michael scott's quite remarkable books "the alchemyst" and "the macigian". what is attractive about the author's approach to the topos of the "sorcerer's apprentice", however, is scott's worthy attempt to project the fantasy material (basically the archetype of the twin gods, also expressed as the sun and moon principles in the historical arcane pre-science of alchemy) onto a general historical screen using a host of "immortal" historical characters and a variety of members of the earth's pandemoniums - which sometimes seems quite appropriate, at other times though appears slightly forced. Yet, most important, these first two volumes - and hopefully the ones still to complete the series - are and will be good reading for those fantasy fans whose horizon is not limited to harry potter (or bibi blocksberg for the germans?), but who love evrery kind of intelligent fantastic literature for the magical potential to be found in it. the current literary movement of postmodern remythologisation certainly has not finished with j.k. rowling but is alive and kicking - michael scott has successfully employed an approach that is historically interesting and well researched, as well as refreshingly up-to-date. i'm waiting for "the sorceress".
Ich bin 9 Jahre alt und habe das Buch auf englisch gelesen. Am Anfang war es schwer zu verstehen, doch dann wurde alles klar.Es ist sehr spannend, und ich würde es Kindern empfehlen, die gerne Abenteuer Romane lesen. :) :) :) :) :) :)
I was deceived by this book. He is trying to step into the success of Harry Potter, trying to attract every Harry Potter reader with the key-word Nicholas Flamel, - but he doesn't have a clue about magic. He is just plaing around with some self-made-up tricks which have nothing to do with real magic. He obviously has not understood the deeper meaning of Harry Potter or Magic.
